About Us
Humane Society of Western Montana FAQ's
- Where are you located? We are located at 5930 Hwy 93 South, 8/10th of a mile past Blue Mountain Road. Our driveway is in between Five Valley Honda and Animal Blessings Veterinary Hospital.
- What are your hours? We are open Tuesday through Saturday from noon until 5 pm. We are closed Sundays, Mondays and major holidays.
- What is your mission statement? 'To bring animals and people together to enrich each other's lives.'
- How long do you keep the animals? We don´t have a set time that we keep animals. It depends on the animal´s adoptability and any behavior or health issues that animal may have.
- What kind of animals do you take? We are an open-admission shelter, so we take all animals, regardless of health, age or our space. Follow this link if you need to surrender a pet.
- Does it cost money to bring in an animal? We ask for $25 to surrender an owned animal, and while there is no cost to bring in a stray, we do accept donations. We are non-profit and grants and donations are how we keep our doors open.
- What does your adoption include? Adoptions include basic vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, collar and tag, leash (dog), carrier (cat), a free post-adoption check-up (thanks to area veterinarians), information on how to help your new pet adjust to a new household, a starter bag of Science Diet food, a cat or dog adjustment DVD.
- How much does it cost to adopt? The fee is $60 to adopt a spayed/neutered cat, kitten, dog or puppy.
- How are you different than Animal Control and the Humane Society? The Humane Society of Western Montana is an independent, non-profit organization. We accept all animals, stray, owned or abandoned. We are governed by our members and Board of Directors. Missoula County Animal Control is supported by tax dollars and government funds. They are responsible for picking up stray dog and cats, for following up on animal related complaints and abuse cases in Missoula County, and for conducting the pet census. They also can take in any stray, owned, and abandoned animals as long as they are from Missoula County.
- What services do you offer? We offer private cremations, lost/found services, microchipping, low-cost spay/neuters (as grants allow), a pet food bank, and a behavior helpline.
- How long does it take to adopt an animal? We ask that you spend time with the pet to make sure that its personality matches what you are looking for. We also ask that resident dogs meet the potential new family member. The time involved varies from family to family. The adoption itself usually takes about 45 minutes.
