Emily Kantor Medical Fund

About Emily

Emily Kantor was only 13 years old when she died in 1995. Because of her love for animals, Emily’s family established a memorial fund in her name at the Missoula Humane Society (now the Humane Society of Western Montana). The fund is specifically for animals arriving at the shelter in need of immediate medical attention.

About Emily's Fund

The Emily Kantor fund allows us to provide life-saving medical care for animals that are available for adoption. Animals can receive surgery, x-rays, diagnostic tests, dentals, and other necessary medical treatments. Just because an animal comes in with a broken leg, does not mean he doesn’t have a chance at finding a new, loving home!

Pets in Need

Due to the current economic conditions, the number of pets arriving at HSWM in need of life-saving procedures has increased dramatically.  Our medical expenses between 2007 and 2009 went up a whopping 90%!!!  More and more people cannot afford to give their pets the care they need, so the animals come to us instead. Here are some examples of medical needs we have addressed just in the past few months:  Tumor removals, biopsies, dental procedures, surgery to repair damage from a being hit by a car, TPLO surgery, heartworm treatment, urinary blockage, and surgery to repair severe injury from a collar or chain.
